The latest insights on narrative, storytelling and leadership in higher education.

One-day bespoke theme workshops

Based on our most popular in-house programmes, three ‘off-the-shelf’ programmes that can be commissioned, tailored and delivered to fit your needs.

Developing and communicating narratives
Crafting institutional narratives: a 1-day programme

This day is for:

Senior and middle leaders who want to begin working collaboratively on creating a shared strategic narrative for their university. This might inform a future strategic plan, or a specific underpinning strategy for academic or professional services areas.

Your chosen narrative might be themed around (but not limited to): International, Research, Learning and Teaching, Enterprise, Estates, or Sustainability.

The day will achieve:

  • An outline and key messages for your chosen narrative
  • Shared ownership through understanding values and priorities of those taking part
  • A plan for future action needed to complete the narrative
  • Empathy and connections between leaders from different parts of the institution
  • Motivation to continue working together

Our approach:

Moving beyond the bustle of commonly used maxims and well-worn phrases, we’ll partner with you to find a compelling narrative that speaks to diverse external audiences, as well as your own internal stakeholders. We’ll use creative techniques to enable the group to draft the outline of a compelling institutional narrative that stands out and enhances the uniqueness of your university.

We can facilitate this programme for a group size of up to 24 people. With a group of more than 10 people, we will provide 2 facilitators.

Cost:

£1800 plus travel expenses plus VAT (1 facilitator)
£3600 plus travel expenses plus VAT (2 facilitators)

Team development and culture building
Finding the Why? for a departmental team

This day is for:

Colleagues who work together in a departmental or divisional team, and who wish to find and articulate a common purpose and vision.

The day will achieve:

  • A supportive team-working culture across the department in which colleagues can be open and innovative
  • An agreed approach to working collaboratively
  • A vision for the Department which will help to shape its future

Our approach

Subtle, diverse voices create layers of narrative, and it’s these voices that we’ll draw out to create a collective team or departmental narrative. This one-day workshop will bring together different players, from the same department or school, and enable them to build a story together; one which is owned, engaged with, and that reflects the diversity  across the department. Delegates will leave with a common sense of purpose to drive forward departmental priorities.

We can facilitate this programme for a group size of up to 24 people. With a group of more than 10 people, we will provide 2 facilitators.

Collaboration across the University
Developing cross-team working

This day is for:

Teams of colleagues in different parts of a university who are not used to working with one another, yet who need to collaborate to deliver on a specific project or initiative.

The day will achieve:

  • A community established between players with different priorities and approaches
  • Greater understanding of the benefits of the collaborative project for the University
  • Ideas and actions for how to work proactively with key project stakeholders
  • Clear messages about the project which will engage and motivate colleagues when communicated between team members

Our approach:

We use a trusting, open approach to bring people together. Where there are sensitivities across different parts of the institution, we find ways to make these spark and forge a team with a common purpose. Over one day, we work with you to bring people together and elevate to create opportunities for collaboration, before building momentum and committed action for what happens next.

We can facilitate this programme for a group size of up to 24 people. With a group of more than 10 people, we will provide 2 facilitators.

Cost:

£1800 plus travel expenses plus VAT (1 facilitator)
£3600 plus travel expenses plus VAT (2 facilitators)
