Finding a compelling vision: what can narrative do for higher education leaders in Ireland?

Bringing narrative alive this May on Unlocking the Creative Leader

In 2019, the power of a compelling narrative for higher education across the world has a bigger role to play than ever before.

For leaders in the Republic of Ireland a resolute narrative of their institution’s distinctiveness, and how they apply this to an increasingly global sector that is finding a new way to fit together during a time of new and purposed mergers and clusters, will be key.

…expressing a purpose that resonates with those they lead and that has direction and momentum, will help shift a culture from just doing…to catalysing energy and ideas to challenge the way the world should be.

In an evolving landscape such as this, finding the narrative that brings people’s visions for the sector together into a coherent whole, but that also celebrates the diversity across the sector, has the potential to be one of the most powerful ways to connect people to a shared commitment to the road ahead.

For individual leaders, expressing a purpose that resonates with those they lead and that has direction and momentum, will help shift a culture from just doing, in response to day-to-day demands, to catalysing energy and ideas to challenge the way the world should be.

In 2018, we spoke to higher education leaders across the island of Ireland where we explored the idea of what a coherent and compelling narrative for leaders and their institutions would and could look like.

Through listening to different perspectives and learning how each institution and its leaders are approaching meeting the evolving challenges of the sector, we decided to run our first international cohort of Unlocking the Creative Leader, specifically tailored for senior leaders, near Dublin this May.

In doing so, we hope to realise even more of the greater good that higher education can bring by sharing new techniques to unlock greater clarity of vision and purpose: for leaders’ own leadership narrative, and that of their institution.

We’d love for leaders across the island of Ireland and beyond to join us on our first global cohort, to explore not the how of leadership, but the why, and to share experiences and learning between us.

In launching Unlocking the Creative Leader near Dublin, this marks a new era for Invisible Grail as we work purposefully toward sharing different, more diverse and international outlooks of what narrative means to higher education across the world.

We’re excited to be welcoming leaders on our inaugural international cohort of Unlocking the Creative Leader.

Barberstown Castle, Co Kildare, Ireland

Now a 4* hotel, Barberstown Castle has been sympathetically updated whilst keeping its old historical charm: you’ll find crackling fires, ivy-clad walls and the odd suit of armour. The Castle is just 25 minutes from Dublin City Centre and Dublin Airport by car.
